I think your mom is afraid of the consequences. But it would be best to return the car now.

If the insurance company has been paying for it, then the rental company may not be upset, but I bet the insurance company will be.

Best to ‘fess up, make arrangements to pay the overcharges over some period of time, and don’t do this again.

For you – learn a lesson – adults can do dumb things – don’t you make this mistake.

And yes, if left unresolved, this could lead to jail time.

1. Not many people want to drive tiny tin cans! And cars really aren’t that big anyway.

2. Some automakers did make electric cars and they didn’t catch on. Plus the infrastructure wasn’t there to support it.

3. Nobody wants there travels limited by their cars battery!!!

4. Electric cars are old tech and have to many limitations. Hydrogen cars are the future and General Motors already has a working one.

The best thing for your mother to do is just go ahead and turn the car in. and tell her not to ignore their calls. She needs to call them. As long as she ignores their calls, she is just digging herself a deeper hole. What the hell is she thinking anyway, doesnt’t she know that she has to take it back where it is rented from?? If the other insurance companty is paying for it, it may be that they have stopped paying for it and the rental company is wanting their car back. I am surprised that there isn’t already a warrant out for her arrest. I strongly suggest that you take the matters in your own hands and let them know that you know where the car is (for your mother’s sake) if it makes her mad, oh well, she will just have to be mad and she will have to get over it, they will not be able to go after you legally, unless your name is tied in to the rental. if it isnt, you are fine. It is going to be up to the rental company and possibily the insurance company as far as any charges filed, if not already done.

Electric cars are too inefficient. They have a very short distance they can go and they have to charge for hours. Then it is going to rape you if you have to buy new batteries for the damn thing!! Its a pain in the butt if you ask me.

As for the big cars, the automakers just have to give the customer what he/she wants. Gotta make money!!

Contractually, your agreement is expired. This means that the rental company can choose to press charges, or they can choose to charge you "prevailing rates", outside of your rental agreement.

Practically, the rental company would be happy if you kept paying the charges for another 3 years. They’re making money. They just want to know that they can continue collecting money from you, and that the car still exists. If it it due for maintenance, they probably want to take car of that as well. A simple phone call should clear up the misunderstanding.

The bigger issue is insurance. Your personal insurance policy does not cover you for renting a car beyond 30 days. You need to turn the car in and rent another one in order for it to be consider a different rental.

If you are paying the Rental Car Companies, daily insurance rates, then you are okay. You are getting ripped off. But, you are okay.

My recommendation is to driver the car VERY SLOWLY back to the rental car company and ask for another car.

it depends on the rental agreement, and if you are paying the rent. at some point in time though the rental agency can report the car as stolen, and then you will be in a world of……….well you know. you can spend time in jail for grand theft auto if they want to push it that far.

It depends on who you rent from. I know with enterprise you just call over the phone and they will swap your credit or debit card again. If you do not have any money on the card you can go to the closest location (if they have one in the location you are not) and pay by check or money order. When you call again ask to speak with the supervisor or whomever is in charge and explain your situation and ask how you both can correct or come to an agreement.
